Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has filed a police report against PAS newcomer Annuar Musa for linking DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang to the May 13, 1969, racial riots.
The DAP lawmaker called on the police to investigate the former Umno stalwart under Sections 499, 504 and 505(b) of the Penal Code, Sedition Act and other relevant laws.
Section 499 covers criminal defamation, whereas Sections 504 and 505(b) are related to insults, provocation and statements that can cause public fear and break public peace.
Speaking at a press conference after filing the report, Lip Eng urged the police to put a stop to lies and unfounded accusations against the DAP.
"Over the years, the DAP has been labelled as anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-royalty, and linked us to one of the causes that led to May 13. These are all lies.
"I want the police to put a stop and bring all these people making these lies and unfounded accusations to court for their various offences," he said.
Lip Eng, in proving his point further, said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong himself has accepted the DAP as part of the federal government as well as appointed the party as part of the federal cabinet.
He added that the Agong had also bestowed Kit Siang with the 'Tan Sri' title recently.
"This is clear that the Agong and the royal houses have accepted the DAP and Kit Siang. We are part of the government and are not anti-certain races or religions.
‘Curb the lies’
Lip Eng also urged DAP candidates contesting in the upcoming state elections to lodge police reports against anyone accusing party leaders of using 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues in their speeches or banners.
"Wait no more and delay no more. Now is the time to curb and put a stop to these lies and defamation," he said.
Previously, Kit Siang said he had instructed his lawyers to look into taking legal action against Annuar, who made the remarks during a ceramah in Kelantan last week.
Annuar linked the DAP stalwart's electoral debut in 1969 as one of the reasons behind the May 13 bloodshed.
Annuar, a former Keterah MP, however, remained unfazed and urged Kit Siang to expedite his lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok supported Kit Siang's lawsuit against Annuar.
She regretted that Annuar would continue to play up 3R issues despite the police's warning against using such sensitive issues in the state polls.
She claimed that the main reason behind May 13 was due to rising tensions in Umno over their loss in the elections.
"According to analysts, the main reason for May 13 was due to tensions in Umno where certain quarters in the party wanted Tunku Abdul Rahman to take responsibility for their loss, and as a result step down from his position.
"Kit Siang was not even in Selangor or in Peninsular (Malaysia). He had gone to Sabah (when the riots were ongoing) and was sent back," she said. - Mkini
