PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, have expressed their deepest condolences to the family of Salahuddin Ayub, who died yesterday.
In a statement issued through Istana Negara’s Facebook page, the King and Queen said they hoped Salahuddin’s family would remain patient and steadfast in this trying time of sadness and grief.
“Their Majesties pray for Allah’s mercy upon the soul of the deceased and that he be placed among the righteous believers in the hereafter,” the statement said.
The King and Queen also expressed their appreciation for Salahuddin’s service and contributions to the nation, describing his passing as a great loss to the country.
Salahuddin, who was domestic trade and cost of living minister, passed away at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar at 9.23pm yesterday. He was 61.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim led the funeral prayers for Salahuddin at Masjid Jamek Dato Haji Noh Gadot in Serkat, Johor this morning.
According to Bernama, Anwar arrived at about 11am and was accompanied by agriculture and food security minister Mohamad Sabu and foreign minister Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Also present were Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi and state secretary Azmi Rohani.
Communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil and defence minister Mohamad Hasan were among the other Cabinet members who attended the prayers.
Several political leaders, including DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng, Amanah vice-president Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, senator Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Johor PAS commissioner Abdullah Husin, were also present to pay their last respects. - FMT
