MACC yet to receive report from Chegubard against Anwar

MACC has not received any formal complaints or memorandum from Bersatu information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin despite his earlier visit to the anti-graft agency’s headquarters.

Badrul (above), better known as Chegubard, visited the MACC headquarters last Tuesday and claimed he was lodging a report over the ownership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s personal residence in Kajang, Selangor, and his use of luxury cars that do not belong to him.

“On July 11… Badrul held a press conference outside the MACC headquarters. After the press conference, the individual expressed his intention to hand over a memorandum to the security booth at the front entrance.

“However, MACC officers informed that the memorandum handing-over procedure must be done within the premises and there were officers at hand waiting to receive (the memorandum).

“The individual refused to enter and said that he would send the information via post. So far, MACC has yet to receive any formal complaint or memorandum from the individual,” said a source familiar with this matter.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki has also denied receiving any such reports or memorandum from Badrul or any other individual.

In his press conference last Tuesday, Badrul alleged that the house in Sungai Long that Anwar stays in belongs to a business tycoon.

This was based on a document allegedly signed by a private secretary to Anwar confirming that the bungalow is owned by the businessperson.

Two days later, Anwar’s political secretary Ahmad Farhan Fauzi lodged a police report under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act against Badrul, former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan and blogger Raggie Jessy Rithaudeen over their remarks, alleging they had defamed Anwar.

Anwar’s lawyer Sankara Nair also clarified that the prime minister had signed a 10-year lease in 2020 for the personal residence in Sungai Long while the borrowed luxury cars have since been returned to their owners.

Badrul later lodged a counter-report against Anwar and Farhan, claiming that the duo had abused their position to pressure the police to silence him. - Mkini
