Dr Mahathir Mohamad sharing the same stage with PAS leaders shows that he is desperate, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar reminded that the former premier had been "very brutal" towards PAS and its supporters when he was in power.
"He is now part of a desperate group and has no other platform to use. Mahathir was the most brutal person against PAS, sekolah agama rakyat (religious schools), and the victims of the Memali incident.
"But now they are supporting him," Anwar was quoted as saying by Berita Harian during a press conference in Gua Musang.
The Pakatan Harapan chairperson was commenting on Mahathir who appeared at a PAS ceramah in Kelantan on Friday where he called for the rakyat to ensure Perikatan Nasional’s victory in the upcoming six state elections.
Mahathir had told a crowd of thousands at Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV in Kota Bharu that PN must make a clean sweep in all six states, of which three were under Harapan.
However, Anwar claimed that Mahathir rallying support for PN would not affect Harapan and BN in the Aug 12 polls.
"It's okay. It is his right (to speak). But it won't affect the people's support for us," the prime minister added. - Mkini
