MCA will continue to criticise PH and DAP, vows party veep

PETALING JAYA: MCA will continue to be critical of Pakatan Harapan, particularly the DAP, despite being part of the unity government bloc, its vice-president, Ti Lian Ker, said.

Ti said MCA intends to provide a check and balance on the unity government to ensure that it lasts the full term.

In particular, he said, the party will continue to call out DAP’s “broken promises, hypocrisy, failures, and their bluffs”.

He cited DAP’s U-turn on issues such as the Bumiputera quota system in public universities, which it previously opposed, as an example.

Ti said DAP, which had been the most vocal critic of the system in the past, has now become silent on the issue.

“It is unfortunate that DAP is suddenly mum on issues like this which it was previously vocal about and had once used against MCA,” he told FMT.

The former deputy youth and sports minister said that while not criticising the unity government on such matters may project a united front, silence may in the long run prove detrimental.

“We just want DAP to be accountable to the over 90% Chinese voters who voted for it. DAP used to hit out at MCA on countless occasions when it was in opposition, but it is now singing a different tune,” he said.

He said there was a need to ensure no promises were broken. Failure to deliver on pledges would have a more lasting effect on voters compared to simply harping on the “green wave”, which he said was being used as a scare tactic.

Ti said voters have been left disappointed by the U-turns and unfulfilled promises and, in terms of the current government, the sudden alliance of old rivals.

“The issues and concerns we are raising are legitimate ones,” he said, adding that his party’s criticism would be based on “facts and figures”.

He also gave an assurance the party had no intention of hitting “below the belt” or resorting to extreme provocations. - FMT
