Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has suggested that the proposed special unit overlooking 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues be made to operate 24 hours a day.
He said that he will discuss the matter with Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain in the coming week.
Speaking at an event in UiTM Shah Alam today, Fahmi said that 3R issues have been invoking public fear.
He cited an example of a TikTok video, that has since been taken down, depicting a group of men sitting around a table with pictures of an unnamed politician next to weapons.
“This can be seen as an attempt to threaten, as the politician's photo was displayed on their phones and also on the table were some axes and a keris.
“This is unhealthy content and TikTok has since taken them down,” he added.
Fahmi also assured that the actions taken against those who play up 3R issues will follow the law.
Razarudin previously warned that the police will take stern action against political parties that touch on the 3R in the upcoming state elections to avoid tension and fears that can disrupt harmony among the people.
The coordination unit will involve the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission under the Communications and Digital Ministry and the police force. - Mkini
