DAP has revealed its 19 candidates for the Penang state election today.
Ten out of the 19 are incumbents – including party chairperson Lim Guan Eng and caretaker Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow – while seven are fresh faces.
The party has also dropped three big guns from contesting.
They are caretaker deputy chief minister II and incumbent Perai assemblyperson P Ramasamy, women’s wing chief and Padang Lalang incumbent Chong Eng as well as Sungai Puyu incumbent Phee Boon Poh. The trio are above 65 years old.
Phee, a four-term assemblyperson who announced his plan to retire a while back, will be replaced by his daughter Syn Tze, 38.
Meanwhile, incumbent Pengkalan Kota assemblyperson Gooi Zi Sen will be moving to the Padang Lalang seat to replace Chong.
Former Eco World Development Group Bhd deputy chief executive officer Sundarajoo Somu will be replacing Ramasamy in the latter’s stronghold in Perai.
Other notable faces dropped from the battle this time round include caretaker state executive council members Yeoh Soon Hin and Soon Lip Chee as well as Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
Former Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai will be replacing Yeoh in the Paya Terubong seat, while both Soon and Syerleena will be replaced by new faces in Bagan Jermal and Seri Delima respectively.
Ramasamy’s aide, Satees Muniandy, was also dropped from contesting in Bagan Dalam. Kumaran Krishnan is the new face to replace Satees.
Over in Pulau Tikus, its incumbent Chris Lee Chun Kit will not be defending his seat after announcing his withdrawal of candidacy from the state polls this morning, citing health issues.
DAP has introduced a new candidate, Woo Sze Zeng, to contest Lee’s seat.

Two Kedah candidates
In other developments, the party also unveiled two candidates for the Kedah state polls.
The incumbents in Derga and Kota Darul Aman will be defending their seats.
They are two-term assemblyperson Tan Kok Yew in Derga and one-term state representative Teh Swee Leong in Kota Darul Aman. - Mkini
