Penang Umno will contest six seats in the upcoming state elections on August 12
Penang Umno chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir reportedly said Umno is also negotiating with its new allies from Pakatan Harapan to contest another one or two more seats.
He said the six confirmed seats to be contested by Umno include the party's two incumbent seats - Permatang Berangan and Sungai Dua - under Tasek Gelugor parliament, held by Bersatu former information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
"We will also contest in Penaga and Bertam under Kepala Batas parliament; Sungai Acheh in Nibong Tebal parliament; and Teluk Bahang in Balik Pulau," Musa told Utusan Malaysia.
"On the one or two seats that we are negotiating, I'm unable to share the status for now as it remains unsure.
"We expect discussions to conclude soon," he told the Malay daily today.
Harapan, together with Bersatu as its then ally, had in GE14 won 37 out of 40 Penang state-assembly seats, while the opposition bench comprised Umno, with PAS' sole representative coming from Penaga.
According to Musa, Penang Umno has submitted its list of candidates for the six seats to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"Now any decisions are left in the hands of the president," he added.
Musa said the list comprises both old and new faces, chosen with confidence in their capabilities to serve the people. - Mkini
