PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has urged voters to record any instances of electoral misconduct by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming six state elections.
“If there are any attempts by PN to offer money, take a video and immediately report it to the police or the Election Commission.
“I want to see if the courts penalise anyone this round in Terengganu, and whether they (PN) are brave enough to bribe the rakyat in Kedah, be it through money or other programmes.
“We know these instances happen, and it has been proven in court,” he said during a Mega Pakatan Harapan ceramah in Kulim last night.
Rafizi (above, left) cited the election court’s decision in Kuala Terengganu on June 27 to nullify PAS member Ahmad Amzad Hashim’s victory in Kuala Terengganu in the 15th general election (GE15).
Commenting on the court decision, Rafizi said that there have been no cases of leaders in the coalition government being found guilty of corruption in court.
This was a contrast to PN, which broke election rules by bribing money, he said.
“The courts rarely intervene in elections, which would mean that there was too strong of evidence for the court to not take a stand in nullifying PAS’ win in Kuala Terengganu,” he said.
Yesterday, PN Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari urged voters to observe and document the presence of ministers who give handouts at their voting constituencies.
Also citing the court decision to nullify Amzad’s victory in Kuala Terengganu, he said that documentation will be useful in preparing election petitions when the need arises.
High Court judge Mohd Firuz Jaffril passed the verdict on June 27 in allowing the election petition by BN’s candidate for the constituency, Mohd Zubir Embong.
The judge ruled, among others, that there was an element of bribery in the distribution of financial aid from the state government - via the i-Belia and i-Student initiatives - prior to GE15.
Besides Kuala Terengganu, Marang, and Kemaman, BN also filed election petitions to challenge the GE15 results for Gua Musang, Putrajaya, Masjid Tanah, and Segamat.
However, the High Court in Kuala Terengganu upheld PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s victory for the Marang parliamentary constituency during GE15.
