The “Sanusi wave” will not impact BN’s chances of seizing Kedah from PAS in the upcoming state election, said state Umno chairperson Mahdzir Khalid.
According to him, Kedah is a state where its government constantly changes and does not last long.
“Kedah is a ‘swing state’... (the wave here) is not static.
“Kedahans are open-minded. There are times when they voted for PAS, and there are times when they gave BN a chance.
“So, you can’t say Kedahans are ‘extreme’ towards a single party,” the former minister said when met at BN’s candidate announcement function in Kuala Lumpur last night.
Mahdzir (above) was referring to caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who commands a strong support base in the state.
Meanwhile, Mahdzir, who was nominated to contest in the Pedu state seat, remained coy when asked about the coalition's menteri besar candidate.
He said that what matters is for the Pakatan Harapan-BN coalition to win the state in the Aug 12 election.
“We leave it (choosing menteri besar) to the leadership, what matters now is winning.
“Harapan wins in their (contested) area, and we win in ours. Then we shall see,” he said.
Mahdzir served as the Pedu assemblyperson between 2004 and 2013. He also served as the Kedah menteri besar between 2005 and 2008.
