Parliament will convene a special meeting this September for a mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
The 12MP was tabled in 2021 by then-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
According to the notice sent to lawmakers, the mid-term review will be tabled on Sept 11.
Debates are then scheduled to be held from Sept 12 to 14, with minister replies on Sept 18 and 19.
The review is being led by the Economy Ministry, with minister Rafizi Ramli holding several engagement sessions in the lead-up to the special meeting.
Rafizi (above) had told Parliament in March that several international institutions such as the World Bank were involved in the review.
The 12MP - a five-year plan - was tabled by Ismail Sabri in September 2021.
The plan included an allocation of RM400 billion for existing and new development projects.
There was also a goal for average household income to hit RM10,000 per month by 2025, a narrowed gap between the GDPs of Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Meanwhile, it also introduced a policy that would only allow bumiputera equity to be sold to bumiputera individuals, companies, or consortiums.
Then-opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman criticised the bumiputera empowerment initiatives under the 12MP as only being beneficial to rich cronies. - Mkini
