Sue Anwar over Felda debt issue, Amanah dares Muhyiddin

Amanah Youth has sarcastically urged Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin to sue Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over the claim that Muhyiddin never waived RM8.3 billion worth of Felda settlers’ loan.

This is as Muhyiddin previously claimed Anwar was lying about the matter, said Amanah Youth exco Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda.

“Muhyiddin said Anwar lied that he (Anwar) was the one who supposedly got rid of the Felda debt worth more than RM8 billion when it was already abolished by Muhyiddin himself in 2021.

“Reasonably, Muhyiddin should immediately file a defamation suit against the prime minister because this clearly damages his reputation, as if he (Muhyiddin) had lied to hundreds of thousands of Felda settlers that the Felda debt was supposedly abolished in 2021, when all he did was just to announce the policy without the implementation.

“This was supported by a statement from the new Felda chairperson Shabery Cheek.

“Surely, Muhyiddin does not want to be portrayed as a liar to his own race, especially when almost 100 percent of Felda settlers are Malays who may have been duped by Muhyiddin’s promise and voted for PN in the previous general election,” Fadhli (above) said in a statement today.

Muhyiddin had previously slammed Anwar for the claims, calling it a “big lie”.

He said the implementation of the debt waiver was carried out in 2021, which was confirmed in a Prime Minister’s Department parliamentary reply on Feb 23.

Anwar has since said he stands firm on his claims that Muhyiddin never implemented his move to waive the RM8.3 billion worth of Felda settlers’ loan when the latter was prime minister.

Anwar concurred that there was an agreement to waive the debts of Felda settlers but the allocation was not tabled in the 2021 and 2022 national budgets.

The Pakatan Harapan chairperson said he only approved the waiver at the end of last month. - Mkini
