PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has come to the defence of his party colleague Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the latter’s recent remarks that allegedly insulted the Selangor sultan.
Speaking at a ceramah in Gombak, Selangor last night, Tuan Ibrahim (above) claimed that the media had twisted Sanusi’s speech related to the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar.
“We see specific attacks on personal issues that occurred in the speech of the (caretaker) Kedah menteri besar... issues of the appointment of the menteri besar was not to insult the rulers, the Selangor sultan or other states.
“(The issue) didn’t even come up... this is a political game, not involving the palace but they are trying to relate it to the palace.
“The news was twisted,” he said.
Also at the ceramah were Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairperson Azmin Ali, former Ketereh MP Annuar Musa, former Selangor BN chairperson Noh Omar, Gombak PAS Salehuddin Nasir and incumbent Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham.
Previously, Sanusi allegedly insulted the Selangor sultan over the ruler’s choice of a menteri besar.
In a viral video, Sanusi could be seen comparing the Kedah sultan and his Selangor counterpart, whom he alleged had chosen a "lousy" menteri besar.
In response to this, several PKR members promptly filed police reports against the PN election director at the Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam stations on Thursday.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that a special task force that focuses on the 3R (race, religion, royalty) issue is investigating Sanusi.
However, Sanusi apologised to the Selangor sultan and explained the true meaning of his speech, alleging that his political rivals had spun his remark out of context.
Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim commended Sanusi who was brave to apologise to the Selangor sultan.
“I have high praises (for him), despite the media spinning the news, Sanusi sent an apology letter to inform the sultan that what had happened was not intended (to insult the Selangor ruler),” he said.
Targeting Sanusi?
He also said that a series of attacks against Sanusi is believed to be due to the caretaker menteri besar’s “greatness” in governing Kedah.
Tuan Ibrahim claimed that’s the reason Pakatan Harapan is putting more focus on Kedah and not placing attention on campaigning in Kelantan and Terengganu.
“There has been a barrage of attacks against Sanusi. Whenever Sanusi speaks, he gets attacked.
“It’s as though the (state) election is (about) Sanusi alone. What for?
“They are not focusing on Kelantan, I went to Kelantan and there were no Harapan talks there. It’s the same in Terengganu... They are trying to attack Kedah,” he said.
