Was there freedom of speech under PN, graphic artist asks Sanusi

Graphic artist Fahmi Reza has slammed caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for lamenting that there is a lack of freedom of speech in the country.

"Dear Sanusi, just want to ask, when Perikatan Nasional administered the country, was there freedom of speech?

"Between March and Sept 2021, I was hauled up under the Sedition Act, got questioned seven times by the police for my satire posters that criticised the PN government, and was charged in court for my poster that criticised PAS," Fahmi said in a Facebook post today.

"Are you not ashamed to only make noise about freedom of speech after getting arrested and charged under the Sedition Act? It's hilarious," he added.

Fahmi was commenting on the claim by Sanusi earlier today that the government was using enforcement agencies to silence him.

The allegation was made after Sanusi got slapped with two counts of uttering remarks with “seditious tendency” in court.

“Looks like we can’t say anything in Malaysia. Usually, people resolve political problems in the political arena with rebuttals to arguments.

“But in Malaysia today, we have a government that is so scared that they use the police or authorities to block our speeches,” the PN election chief told a press conference outside the courtroom after being charged at the Sessions Court in Selayang this morning. - Mkini
