Take care of flood victims in your state first, DPM tells Kedah MB

PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor should focus on helping flood victims in his state rather than coming to Pahang to campaign, said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The deputy prime minister told reporters this morning that there are over 1,400 flood victims in the northern state in need of the menteri besar's attention.

"I pray for the 1,452 flood victims from over 400 families in Kedah, and hopefully their menteri besar will be able to handle the disaster and deliver his best service to the people.

"Do not be a busybody in other people's area, he better take care of his people first," Zahid said during a press conference in Felda Chemomoi, Pelangai.

Several districts in Kedah were hit by major floods three days ago following continuous downpours, forcing over 1,500 people to flee and seek refuge at temporary relief shelters.

Sanusi (above) visited Pelangai last week to campaign for the coalition's candidate Kasim Samat.

The PN election director is scheduled to make an appearance in the Pahang constituency again this Friday for a ceramah along with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin.

‘Choose BN for continued good services’

In Zahid's speech earlier, the Umno president took a swipe at Sanusi for keeping himself occupied with campaigns in Pelangai when his state was experiencing disaster.

"We know that there are some party (members) who have been campaigning here when their own state is hit by floods.

"It is better for them to return to their state and help the flood victims. The people need their help, we also want to see how much they can do to help the people," the deputy prime minister said.

He urged Pelangai voters not to be influenced by opposition campaign narratives, which he claimed were only trying to disunite the people.

The voters, according to Zahid, should choose BN to ensure continuity of good services through a representative who is in line with the Pahang state government and Putrajaya.

"We do not want the people to be victimised by a mindset where everything must be objected to.

"Such antagonistic behaviour had been spread to sow hatred among the rakyat. The general and state elections are over, and this now is only a by-election.

"We want this election to be determined by the people of Pelangai, by the rakyat of Bentong so Pahang can continue to be a peaceful state," he added. - Mkini
