Police presence: Takiyuddin just wants to 'create confusion' - Zahid

PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today dismissed PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan's claim of “extraordinary” police presence at Perikatan Nasional campaign activities in Pelangai.

Speaking to reporters this morning, he said the Kota Bharu MP was only trying to create an issue to create confusion among the people.

"I know him (Takiyuddin) personally, and he is the kind of person who will do anything to not only create a situation for political attack but also to create confusion.

"The police are very professional. They will always try to accommodate any political party and candidate in their campaign drive.

"Do not question the professionalism of our law enforcement agencies, especially the police," Zahid (above, right) told a press conference in Felda Chemomoi, Bentong today.

He was there to launch a career carnival organised by NGO Hawa Malaysia and the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Yesterday, Takiyuddin claimed that there was an "extraordinary attendance" of authorities monitoring PN campaigns for its Pelangai candidate Kasim Samat, and this has allegedly created a feeling of "unrest" among locals.

The PN deputy secretary-general claimed the police monitoring of Kasim’s walkabouts and house-to-house visits had also created reservations among locals to engage with the candidate.

Kasim is up against BN’s Amizar Abu Adam and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli.

On BN's chance to win the Pelangai polls, Zahid said he is confident that the coalition can retain the seat.

"However, we must keep up our efforts, because we know that our political enemies are also working hard," he added. - Mkini
