PETALING JAYA: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was absent from the Dewan Rakyat proceedings today due to heart problems and several other ailments, according to the party’s spiritual leader, Hashim Jasin.
Hashim told FMT that Hadi, 76, who is currently in Terengganu, was advised by his doctors against travelling.
“Given his age, he suffers from various health issues. He has been making frequent visits to the National Heart Institute (IJN),” he said when asked about Hadi’s well-being.
Hadi was noticeably absent from the opening ceremony of the 15th Parliament’s third session, where Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim delivered his maiden address as the 17th King.
Hashim said due to Hadi’s health condition, a meeting of the PAS Syura Council also had to be postponed.
“Hadi’s press secretary informed us about this. We haven’t been able to fix a date for the PAS Syura Council to meet.
“Many party activities have also been postponed as he (Hadi) hasn’t been able to attend them,” he said.
Hashim said, however, that Hadi was still actively writing statements, giving the public the impression that he was in good health.
Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed Hadi is unable to attend Dewan Rakyat proceedings this week.
“He is on medical leave for four days. His health doesn’t permit him to attend (Parliament) this week,” he said.
Bachok MP Syahir Che Sulaiman, who is also Hadi’s political secretary, said the Marang MP is still recovering in Terengganu after undergoing treatment.
“He submitted a letter, along with the medical certificate (MC), to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker (Johari Abdul) yesterday to inform him of this,” he told FMT. - FMT
