PJ traffic cops probed after Bukit Aman found RM3k during roadblock

Selangor police are investigating 10 of its traffic police who manned a roadblock in Petaling Jaya early Sunday morning over suspicion of corruption.

According to state police chief Hussein Omar Khan, this comes after a spot check carried out by Bukit Aman disciplinary body found over RM3,000 of cash in the possession of one of the officers.

The 10, including a ranking officer, have been taken out of enforcement duties temporarily pending investigation.

“The spot check - carried out by Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department - found that one of the traffic personnel, who is a sergeant, was in possession of cash amounting to RM3,313. They also found RM414 in the car (that belonged to one of the police).

“Police have opened a disciplinary investigation paper and lodged a report following the finding, to ascertain if there was any corruption or violation of procedures.

“The personnel under investigation will be taken out of the (traffic) enforcement division pending investigation,” he said.

According to media reports, the traffic police from Petaling Jaya district headquarters were conducting a roadblock to nab drunk drivers when Bukit Aman officers visited them for checks.

Last week, a traffic officer in Perak also went under a corruption probe after he allegedly solicited RM100 from a couple of tourists, whom he had stopped for allegedly driving above the legal speed limit. - Mkini
