Thailand’s lower house has passed a marriage equality bill which will make it the first country in Southeast Asia to legalise same-sex marriage.
According to reports, the vote passed by a landslide 399 votes, with only 10 lawmakers voting against it.
The bill’s passage is viewed as a significant victory for LGBTQ+ advocacy groups in the country who have been campaigning for marriage equality for years.
The bill now goes to the senate, which rarely rejects any legislation that passes the lower house, and then to the king for royal endorsement.
