BANGKOK: Two Thais suspected of drug trafficking were extradited from Malaysia to Thailand today.
Office of the Thai Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) secretary-general Panurat Lakboon said its regional office in Narathiwat, along with local police, immigration and military officers, received the suspects at the Thai-Malaysian border in Sungai Kolok, Narathiwat.
Bernama reported that the arrests stemmed from a drug seizure in Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan province last November.
“Police found 499kg of methamphetamine and 100kg of ketamine hidden in a pickup truck that had been involved in an accident. The driver of the truck fled the scene,” said Panurat in a statement.
“The other two suspects were also involved in the drug trafficking ring.
“They were arrested in Malaysia for illegal entry and have now been brought back to Thailand.”
He said ONCB will expand its investigation as the case involves a large amount of drugs.
Panurat also believed that the network is linked to drug trafficking in the southern part of Thailand, from where syndicates send drugs to third countries through border areas or cargo ships. - FMT
