PETALING JAYA: Two more suspects have been arrested for allegedly provoking and threatening to hit a customer at a McDonald’s outlet in Kuantan, Pahang.

Kuantan police chief Wan Zahari Wan Busu said the duo – a contractor and a trader – were arrested yesterday.

They have been remanded until Wednesday along with the three others nabbed on Saturday.

In a statement today, Wan Zahari said they were being investigated for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of two years’ jail or a fine, or both, if found guilty.

He said one suspect had confessed to threatening the victim though the other four did not.

Police launched an investigation after a report was filed by a man, who claimed the suspects had insulted him when he went to the McDonald’s outlet with his family.

One of them also allegedly threatened to hit the man with a helmet when he was leaving the outlet.

McDonald’s has become the target of a boycott since its franchisee in Israel, Alonyal, announced that it would donate free meals to the Israeli military amid the Gaza war.

Earlier this month, the burger chain said it would buy over its 30-year-old Israel franchise from Alonyal, which owns 225 outlets that employ more than 5,000 people. - FMT
