PETALING JAYA: Two Selangor Umno leaders have dismissed Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s claim that plans for the party’s resurgence at the state level had been lacklustre compared with initiatives executed at the national level.
Selangor Umno committee member Jamal Yunos and the state’s Umno Youth chief Imran Tamrin said with Megat Zulkarnain Omardin at the helm, the state chapter had organised many programmes, including those involving efforts to win back its supporters.
Megat is also the political secretary to Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Meanwhile, Jamal said that all the programmes Selangor Umno had implemented and the strategies it had drawn up were aligned to that of the central leadership, contrary to Tengku Zafrul’s claims.
“Whatever decision made at the national level is adopted by the state chapter.
“Having been a division chief for a long time, I can vouch for our chief (Megat). He has taken many proactive steps compared with his predecessors,” the Sungai Besar division chief told FMT.
Tengku Zafrul made these claims in a Facebook post earlier today and also announced his resignation as Selangor Umno treasurer, a post he was appointed to last April.
The senator said he made the decision to step down after he failed to make changes or improvements at the state level.
Jamal dismissed suggestions that Selangor Umno was in turmoil and felt that Tengku Zafrul resigned from the post so he could focus on his responsibilities as the investment, trade and industry minister.
Imran too dismissed any suggestion that there was a rift in the state chapter following Tengku Zafrul’s resignation.
“It’s business as usual,” he said, adding that Tengku Zafrul’s claims were his personal opinion. - FMT
