KLIA shooting: Malaysia Airports honours security personnel

Malaysia Airports has extended its appreciation to aviation security member Mohammad Shafiq Safi’ai for his courageous and swift actions during the shooting incident at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on April 14.

In a Facebook post today, Malaysia Airports praised Shafiq for his dedication to ensuring visitor safety.

“Shafiq sternly warned the suspect by aiming his firearm at the man, who fired two shots and later fled the scene,” it said.

The post included a photo of Shafiq receiving a certificate of appreciation and an RM1,000 contribution from Malaysia Airports.

In the incident at about 1.30am at the KLIA Terminal 1 arrival hall, a man fired two shots, one of which struck a local man who was also a bodyguard.

The suspect has since been remanded for seven days from April 16.
