The Election Commission (EC) has fixed May 11 as polling day for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
EC chairperson Abdul Ghani Salleh announced April 27 as nomination day, while early voting will take place on May 7.
“The by-election requires an allocation of RM2.5 million,” he told a press conference today.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu seat fell vacant after its three-term assemblyperson Lee Kee Hiong passed away following a long battle with ovarian cancer on March 21.
Postal voting
Ghani (above, left) said applications for postal voting for all categories will open today.
For those in the 1A category, involving voters who will be on duty on polling day, the closing date for the application of postal votes is April 26.
Overseas voters (category 1B) will have until April 15 to make their applications, while category 1C voters must apply for their postal vote by April 18, he added.
According to Ghani, 760 officials will be selected to handle the by-election.
“There will be 20 polling stations with 77 polling channels,” he said.
He reminded government agencies, NGOs and interested parties who wish to observe the election that they will be allowed to do so at the candidate nomination centre, voting centre, vote counting centre and official vote tallying centre.
They must also comply with all the conditions, he added.
“The EC has appointed one electoral officer, who will be aided by three assistants.
“To monitor election campaign activities throughout the official campaigning period, the EC will establish two election campaign enforcement teams which will also consist of representatives from the police, local authorities and representatives of competing candidates,” he said. - Mkini
