PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said that no Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house event will be held at Seri Perdana this year, as part of cost-cutting measures.
This marks the second time his administration has not held an open house at the federal level, in a departure from previous practice.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said he would instead attend the open houses organised by states and ministries.
“(This way) there will be no huge hit to spending,” he said at the finance ministry’s monthly assembly.
Anwar also urged agency and department heads to make full use of their Aidilfitri holidays and meet with resident and youth representatives to identify problems in their home towns.
“Don’t just return to your home towns to meet your family, but also meet the mosque, youth and village committees, and so on.
“Find a way to help them identify the poorest people (who need help), or orphans who cannot go to school,” he said. - FMT
