PM vows inclusivity for all Malaysians regardless of race

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has vowed that he will not compromise in making Malaysia a country for all Malaysians regardless of race.

Anwar asserted that there’s no place in the country for discrimination of any race, as achieving greater equality must be a central goal for all Malaysians.

“The country must not continue bickering over petty issues, sowing the seeds of discord and hatred among races in Malaysia.

“If Malaysia wants to survive, we must go back to the core values and principles of humanity, justice and unity because that can ensure our success… and not to pander to the racist agenda of various quarters,” he said today.

He said this during his speech at the launch of the BR Ambedkar International Convention and Ambedkar’s 133rd birth anniversary celebration held at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Expressing his wish for a unified Malaysia, he lauded Ambedkar’s emphasis on fraternity, which is essential for fostering unity and is aligned with Malaysia Madani’s national philosophy.

“The challenge is ours, and I am confident every Malaysian, no matter the colour of their skin, their creed, or station in life, can individually, and together, collectively, create a stronger, more prosperous and more equal Malaysia, where anyone who dreams big, works hard and plays by the rules, can realise their ambitions.

“This is my goal for every Malaysian, indeed, for our whole country,” he added.

Rising to the top levels of Indian society, Ambedkar was India’s first law and justice minister. He headed the committee responsible for drafting the Constitution of India.

‘We do care’

Addressing the plights of the Indian community, Anwar highlighted various programmes designed to assist and support the group.

Therefore, it was unjust for critics to allege that he hasn’t done anything to help the community since taking up the mantle as prime minister.

“Let me illustrate one area where we have listened to your concerns, my Indian brothers and sisters. We have listened, and indeed, we do care immensely.

“If I solve all the problems in Malaysia, I don’t have to be the prime minister anymore. Give me some time.” - Mkini
