Teen crashes into police vehicle while fleeing cops

 

The motorcyclists suspected to be racing illegally tried to flee the cops upon seeing them, but the victim crashed into the police vehicle just as it was making a turn.

PETALING JAYA: An 18-year-old in Melaka was sent flying into the air after crashing into a police vehicle while trying to flee the cops for illegal racing yesterday.

Melaka police chief Zainol Samah said the incident occurred at about 2.56am at Jalan Gangsa Kesang, Durian Tunggal, while the police vehicle was involved in an operation to curb illegal racing.

“The police vehicle headed to the location with warning sirens and its beacon light flashing after receiving complaints of noise and illegal racing in the area.

“The individuals gathered at the side of the road, then tried to flee on their motorcycles, and when the police vehicle tried to turn right onto a road, the victim and his motorcycle crashed into the police vehicle,” he said in a statement.

The victim sustained injuries and is being treated at Melaka Hospital.

Zainol said the case is being probed for driving recklessly without due care and attention under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for up to a year in jail and a maximum fine of RM10,000, upon conviction.

“Melaka police will ensure the investigation is conducted transparently and professionally,” he said. - FMT
