Sanusi apologises to Selangor sultan

 

Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor said he regretted the ramifications caused by his remarks.

Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor has apologised to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, over his 

offensive and disrespectful

 remarks made last year.

“I realise that my remarks had created unease and hurt the sultan’s feelings.

And I regret the ramifications that my remarks caused,

 he said in a press conference.

However, Sanusi did not provide details on the offensive and disrespectful remarks he was referring to.

In July last year, Sanusi had apologised to Sultan Sharafuddin for remarks he made regarding the appointment of the state’s menteri besar.

Sanusi had also revealed last year that he wrote to the Selangor Ruler to explain his remarks which he claimed were distorted by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

The Perikatan Nasional election director was subsequently charged for making seditious statements against royalty. He claimed trial.

The charges concern remarks he made at a ceramah for a state election campaign about the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the establishment of the unity government.

He was accused of committing the offence at Simpang 4 in Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak, at 11pm on July 11, 2023.

Sanusi today acknowledged that he should have refrained from making such remarks regardless of the heated atmosphere of the election campaign.

Therefore, with deep remorse and humility, I seek forgiveness from Your Highness, the Sultan of Selangor, as well as from the menteri besar and the people of Selangor for the remarks I made,

 he said.

He also promised to exercise greater caution with his statements and ensure that his remarks align with Malay customs, which upholds respect for the Rulers and the institution of the monarchy. - FMT
