The spat between his Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and DAP vice-chairperson Teresa Kok over the halal certification issue is considered over, said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Dah... dah ‘tone down’... I personally met with Akmal on Sept 14,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said he informed DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke about the matter.
“In fact, last night I issued a statement on the cabinet’s decision that the halal certification would not be made compulsory and the old policy would remain. So the issue is closed,” he added.
However, Akmal launched another salvo against Kok three days after meeting Zahid and called her “Nyonya” again.
The Umno Youth chief was responding to the Seputeh MP blaming ChatGPT and media sensationalism over the controversy involving her remark on the halal certification issue.
“Earlier, she blamed me. Now, it’s ChatGPT’s fault.
“This ‘Nyonya’ is hilarious. Please sue ChatGPT too. I can’t wait to fight this in court,” he said in reference to Kok initiating legal action against him.
Previously, Akmal said he would also ask the government to prepare a “non-halal” logo to be stuck on Kok’s forehead. - Mkini
