MCA has urged the government to provide greater certainty over the future of the Budi95 quota, saying Malaysians should not have to worry about the reinstated 300-litre allocation being reduced again when subsidy pressures rise.
The party’s public policy and people's livelihood research advisory committee member, Monna Ong, said the government should also explain the financial implications of restoring the quota, including whether the allocation is sustainable in the long term.
In a statement, she said if the quota was temporary, the government should then set out clear criteria for any future changes, while ensuring subsidy reforms did not inadvertently increase the cost of living for ordinary Malaysians.
She said a clear, predictable and sustainable RON95 policy was needed to provide greater certainty for household financial planning.
Ong also urged the government to improve public transport connectivity, particularly outside major urban centres, so Malaysians would have genuine alternatives to driving.
PSM has thrown its support behind the Malaysian Trades Union Congress’s (MTUC) call for a national picket over Socso's Lindung 24 Jam scheme, while urging the union to be firm and consistent in its demands.
S Arutchelvan The party's deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan said the scheme should be made compulsory, rather than optional, and its contribution should be shared between workers and employers. He said it was unjust for workers to bear the full cost of the scheme.
He also questioned the reported RM90,000 to RM120,000 monthly remuneration of the Socso CEO, calling for the government to explain the salary structure and disclose the pay of top executives at government-linked companies and statutory bodies.
Arutchelvan also urged the government to consider salary ceilings for such positions, saying public institutions should serve workers and the public rather than individuals. - Mkini
