Another suspect nabbed in Teluk Intan robbery-murder case

Police have arrested another suspect in the robbery case that led to the death of an elderly man in Teluk Intan in April.

In a statement last night, Hilir Perak police chief Chua Kok Lian said the 26-year-old man was detained on Aug 26 in Klang, Selangor, during Op Kesan/Wanted.

He said the arrest resulted from sustained efforts to track down and bring to justice individuals believed to be involved in the case, which resulted in the death of the 69-year-old victim.

The suspect’s four accomplices were arrested and charged in court on May 7, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34.

“Following further investigations, the case was referred to the deputy public prosecutor, and instructions have been received for the suspect to be charged under the same law as well,” Chua said.

“The suspect, who is currently in remand, will be brought before the Teluk Intan magistrates’ court on Sept 2 to face the charge.”

He urged members of the public with information related to criminal activities to come forward and share it with the police, to assist efforts to maintain public safety and order.

On April 17, it was reported that an elderly man had died after being slashed with a machete during a gang robbery at a residence in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan.

Chua previously said the victim sustained severe injuries to his right hand and left palm, and was pronounced dead at the scene. - FMT
