Still no clues on body of woman found in suitcase in Perak River

 Police are working with local and international agencies to identify the victim, believed to be in her 30s.

Police believe the woman, whose body was found inside a bag in Sungai Perak near Lembah Jetty in Kuala Kangsar on Aug 14, had been bound and had her face covered before being thrown into the river.

Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said the victim, believed to be in her 30s, was suspected to have drowned, but her identity remains unknown.

He said checks with the national registration department and other agencies did not find any records that could help identify her, while no missing person’s reports matching the victim had been lodged.

“For now, several specimens from the victim have been sent for forensic analysis, and we are awaiting the results.

“It may take some time because of the large number of specimens submitted,” he told reporters at the Sungai Siput police headquarters today.

Alwi said police would also work with agencies such as the immigration department and Interpol to try to establish the victim’s identity.

The media previously reported that low water level in Sungai Perak led to the discovery of the body after a suitcase became stuck in the middle of the shallow river. - FMT
