Activist Arun Dorasamy has questioned purported delays in the inquest for the police shooting in Durian Tunggal, Malacca, last year, despite instructions from the Attorney-General’s Chambers in July.
“The delay is no small matter. It is taking place in a situation where there is already a trust deficit between the victims’ families and the government agencies handling the matter,” he said in a statement today.
Arun (above) demanded the AGC and the police show proof that the inquest has been filed in court and state the current status of the inquest, including providing the case number and naming the court where it will be held.
The Penang Port Commission has ordered the formation of a special task force to investigate a ship-to-ship collision that left 21 people injured near Penang Port last night.
The commission’s chairperson Yeoh Soon Hin said the task force will establish the facts surrounding the accident and report fully to the public, Bernama reported.
Relevant parties have also been instructed to assist with compensation matters, while ferry operator Penang Port Sdn Bhd has been ordered to review its procedures and safety mechanisms.
