PETALING JAYA:
A woman was hurt after being struck by fragments from a concrete structure that fell from a heritage building at Lebuh China in George Town, Penang, last night.

The incident occurred around 11.30pm when a cable connected to a wall came loose, dislodging a structure at the corner of the building and causing fragments to fall on the victim.

An ambulance took the woman in her 20s to hospital for treatment, Berita Harian reported.

The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has cleared up the debris and cordoned off the area.

Last month, two foreign tourists were injured by falling debris from a heritage building along Armenian Street.

The structural failure was attributed to termite damage to a wooden beam.

The Penang government has since ordered George Town World Heritage Incorporated and MBPP to issue an advisory to the owners of heritage buildings to carry out safety inspections of their buildings. - FMT
