Strong winds rip roofs off houses in Kulim

KULIM: About 10 houses in Taman Jati, Taman Selasih and Kampung Padang Kulim were damaged by strong winds during a storm in Kulim at about 4pm today.

"The storm and strong winds were so severe that I saw several roofs being blown off houses and damaged.

"It was also raining heavily, and many roads were flooded," said a resident who wished to be known only as Madie, 43.

Madie, who lives in Taman Selasih, said he was outside running errands when the incident happened and saw several house roofs being blown away by the wind.

"I was frightened to see it happen right before my eyes. I saw many fallen trees and broken branches.

"I have never experienced winds that strong, but fortunately, nobody was injured," he said when contacted.

Kulim Civil Defence officer Amirul Aliff Ahmad said his department had received reports of fallen trees as of 6pm.

He said five personnel were involved in cutting up and clearing fallen trees at locations beside Masjid Kulim, Kulim Avenue, Jalan Pegawai Kampung Bukit Awie, the Kulim District Office quarters and Taman Kenari. - NST
