MIC Youth chief T Mohan is prepared to vacate his post if it is proven that he mismanaged the funds from a charity dinner.
Speaking to FMT, Mohan said that he and the wing’s treasurer J Dhinagaran were both ready to vacate their positions.
He was reponding to the allegation of a MIC Youth leader, R Ramanan, that RM100,000 had gone missing from the funds.
Ramanan had also urged Dhinagaran to make public the accounts, but the latter said that the accounts pertaining to the dinner held last December had yet to be audited.
The treasurer also denied the allegation of embezzlement and warned Ramanan of legal action, which the latter said he was ready to face.
Meanwhile, Mohan said “Zuna Nite” was held to raise funds for Indian youth development programmes.
“We have already completed the internal auditing, and an external auditing is being done now. I will reveal the accounts during the MIC Youth convention in July,” he added.
“If Ramanan can proof that there is any misconduct even a single sen… I will resign my post. But what about him? Will he leave the party if he fails to proof the allegation?” he asked.
Mohan also said that he sympathised with Ramanan, whom he believed was “stressed” following his dimissal as MIC Youth’s public complaints bureau chief.
He also denied speculation that a prominent MIC leader was behind Ramanan to kill Mohan’s political career.
“I don’t think someone is behind Ramanan. I believe he is working on his own,” he said.
Mohan, however, refused to comment on the police report filed against Ramanan but stressed that he had nothing to do with it.
Last Friday, DAP member V Ragunathan filed a police report claiming that Ramanan had cheated psychiatrist Dr M Mahadevan of RM5.5 million over a land dispute with the Defence Ministry.
Ramanan had denied this.
