NUSAJAYA- Johor DAP chairman Dr Boo Cheng Hou is in the spotlight again for likening karaoke singers to thieves in a poem during the Johor state assembly.
The Skudai assemblyman's recitation Kaki karaoke biasa mencuri, kaki judi biasa menipu, dia pencuri telunjuk jari, kuasa rakyat tentukan hukum penipu. (Avid karaoke singers often steal, avid gamblers often lie, he is stealing and yet pointing his finger, the people's power will determine the penalty for the liar) saw MCA representatives demanding an apology from him on behalf of all karaoke singers later.
MCA backbenchers' club chairman Datuk Ng See Tiong (BN-Parit Yaani) who described the poem as “deragotary to every karaoke singer” during a press conference, said Dr Boo must apologise immediately.
Ng stressed that there was nothing wrong with singing, adding that it was a way to destress and also for MCA representatives to get closer to the people.
Dr Boo who retaliated at a separate press conference, pointed out that his poem was only aimed at MCA representatives, accusing them of going to karaoke instead of helping to resolve the people's problems.
Dr Boo who recited the poem at the end of his speech was caught in a battle of words with MCA's Datuk Koh Chee Chai (BN-Penggaram) earlier.
It started with Koh accusing the Opposition of manipulating facts and figures to lie to the rakyat in his speech.
Dr Boo then interrupted Koh, saying his words were not true and calling him a “karaoke kaki”.
He said he would only retract his statement if Koh retracted his.
Speaker Datuk Ali Hassan then ordered Dr Boo to refrain from speaking and told Koh to continue with his speech.
