DPM probing aide's kickback claims

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that he is investigating claims that his private secretary has been receiving bribes.

Speaking to reporters at a UiTM Puncak Alam, Muhyiddin said is not aware of any wrongdoing but will probe the matter.

"I am not aware except for what I read in the blog. I will look into this.

"Whatever that is said to be linked to anyone, or my department, I will look into," he said, when asked if he will seek an explanation from his aide.

NONEHe was responding to a claim in a blogger dubbed whistleblower711 alleging that Muhyiddin senior private secretary Mohd Shukor Abdul Manan (right) has received more than RM100,000 in monthly contributions.

Also alleged to have gotten kickbacks are Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's private secretary and Deputy Finance Minister Awang Adek Hussin.

Awang Adek has denied wrongdoing, claiming the contributions were for charity programmes in Bachok, where he is Umno division leader.
The anonymous blogger had backed his claims with cash and cheque deposits slips which show that the two aides had received "contributions" of RM160,000 and RM170,000 respectively from a company from as early as August 2008.

The blogger claims that the contributions were in relation to a contract given by the Public Works' Department (PWD) to the company of a Johor Umno division leader, to provide service to Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and the adjeacent Johor Bahru Sentral in Johor.

Malaysiakini has verified that the bank accounts to which the contributions were made belong to Awang Adek and one of the aides.
