Parliamentary Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that Pakatan Rakyat was not about him, but about struggling for the welfare of the people against the BN regime.
In his interview with PAS's bi-weekly Harakah, Anwar said the main objective of the sodomy trial was to disrupt the unity and strength among PR parties.
“I don’t think they can threaten the unity in Pakatan Rakyat. I have had long discussions with Ustaz Hadi [Awang, PAS president] and other PAS leaders, including PKR and DAP on what we expect from the trial thus far, the chances and scenario. UMNO has attempted to depict me as immoral but all have realised that it is just slander,” he said in the paper's latest edition.
Anwar, who will be delivered a verdict on January 9 seen likely to send him back to jail, also reiterated that PR leaders had had discussions about the coalition's future leadership in his absence.
"The struggle is not solely about me, it is the people’s struggle to stop this evil regime."
Anwar said whatever the verdict next week, the result would pose problems to UMNO.
“We need to make people understand that UMNO-BN is about playing up racial issues," he stressed.
Anwar also added that prime minister Najib Razak had showed his lack of confidence in facing the current storm, leading him to employ public relations and media consultants.
"He [Najib] just doesn’t have the stamina in politics."
