Whatever the High Court verdict on Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II trial, the top leaders and supporters of Pakatan Rakyat intend to hold a rally in Anwar's Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency on Monday night.
Anwar, who is opposition leader in Parliament, is expected to make his first stop in Penang in the evening of Jan 9, to explain to the people the court decision on his second sodomy charge.
Pantai Jerejak assemblyperson Sim Tze Tzin (left) said Anwar wanted to do what he did in in 1998, after he was sacked deputy prime minister, when he returned to Penang for the Permatang Pauh Declaration.
Anwar became Permatang Pauh MP in a by-election in 2008, aafter his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail vacated the seat for him.
"After the verdict, all top Pakatan Rakyat leaders will converge in Permatang Pauh for a huge rally," Sim told reporters in Penang.
"If Anwar is freed, he will explain the verdict himself, if he is not (freed), the top leaders will still turn up in Permatang Pauh for the rally," he added.
Sim: Don't let the police fool you
Pakatan is also planning a mammoth rally, to be attended by thousands, in support of Anwar outside the Kuala Lumpur court complex on Monday, when the High Court delivers the Sodomy II verdict.

The police have warned against the rally, but Home Minister Hishamudin Hussein called on the organisers to guarantee that it would be held in a peaceful manner.
Sim said Penang Pakatan was mobilising a large crowd to attend the Kuala Lumpur rally and that supporters would travel by various means to reach the destination.
The PKR Bayan Baru division chief urged supporters to set aside their fears and to proceed to Kuala Lumpur to support their leader.
"Do not be fooled by the special branch officers. We know the police will stop, us but we will go ahead with our trip anyway," Sim added.
