Perkasa to hold CNY open house tomorrow
For the first time Malay rights group Perkasa will be hosting a Chinese New Year open house at Kampung Baru tomorrow.
When contacted, Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali said the movement has invited the media and friends from the Chinese community but it is open to all.
"We decided to do this after our meeting, we are saying that Perkasa is not racist," he said.
Syed Hassan (left) said while Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali has in the past organised similar events in his capacity as Pasir Mas MP, this is Perkasa's first official Chinese New Year open house.
He added that the group also plans to organise more open house events, such as for Hari Raya and Deepavali.
Some 300 people are expected to attend the 1pm to 3pm luncheon at the Kelab Sultan Sulaiman hall, he said.
"Please come, come with your friends," he said, adding that Ibrahim is slated to address the crowd.
Asked what message does Perkasa intend to convey by the invitation Syed Hassan replied: "Wait and see Ibrahim's speech tomorrow".
Ibrahim had prior to the Bersih 2.0 rally controversially said if the protest went ahead, the Chinese community would need to stay home and stockpile food as "anything could happen".
