Police nab several suspects over '901 graffiti'
Police this morning detained several individuals in Kuala Lumpur for alleged vandalism believed to be in relation to the ‘901 Free Anwar’ rally.
“I can confirm that arrests were made,” said Brickfields OCPD Wan Abdul Bari Wan Khalid.
However, Wan Abdul Bari could not confirm the number of individuals detained or the exact locations of the incidents.
“I am still obtaining information,” he said when contacted today.
It is believed that the individuals were detained for spray painting ‘TTR901'.
It is, however, unclear if the graffiti is related to the rally in support for PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, whose sodomy trial verdict will be read out on Jan 9.
The graffiti, which appears to have been done using black spray paint and a stencil, were first spotted around the Bangsar area this week.
They have only started appearing after Anwar's supporters announced their intention to gather at the Kuala Lumpur Duta Court on Monday.
Speculation was rife this week over how the authorities would respond to the planned rally.
However the police announced yesterday that they will allow Anwar's supporters to gather at the court carpark.
The permission for the gathering comes with 10 conditions, including a ban on banner ands speeches and a limit of two loudhailers.
Meanwhile Malay pressure group Perkasa, which is holding a counter rally, has been permitted to converge at the Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan compound.
