Student leader Muhammad Safwan Anang has lodged a police report alleging assault during a demonstration at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris.
“A policeman wearing plainclothes and a police vest grabbed me roughly near the main gates of UPSI on Jan 1.
“As I was hauled away, I was punched on the left cheek and he kneed me on my chest,” the chairman of the Movement for Academic Freedom (Bebas) said after lodging the report at 4.15pm yesterday at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here,
After the beating, Mohd Safwan said he found it hard to breathe and fell unconscious.
The 22-year-old also claimed there are videos of the police brutality to disprove claims that his injuries were self inflicted.
“The video aired by the police only showed part of what happened at UPSI,” he said.
Muhammad Safwan’s lawyer Ahmad Zamri Asa’ad Khuzaimi said they had in their possession the full-length video of the incident.
He also alleged that Muhammad Safwan was asked to sign a letter saying that he was not assaulted and that his injuries were due to a fall. - Star
