KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 — The Election Commission (EC) has reminded political parties contesting in the 13th general election to not drag the commission into their campaigns.
EC deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar (picture)said the commission was an independent body responsible for conducting a fair election process by giving equal treatment to political parties and voters.
“We want a free and fair election but don’t get us involved before and during the campaigns. We are only managing the election, not contesting,” he told Bernama.
Regarding the campaign period, he said the EC will finalise the matter after taking into consideration all aspects such as votes from abroad.
“Overseas ballots will be sent by embassies around the world. It will take time to reach the managing officer, so this must be considered as well,” he said. — Bernama
