In the land of the White Haired king, MACC is blind

YOURSAY 'It appears to be a systematic plunder of the state carried out over a period of time. Unbelievable, unforgivable, unforgettable and despicable.'

Explosive video reveals licence abuses by Taib family

your sayOnyourtoes: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) now must ‘investigate' and clear all those implicated of corruption; The Internal Revenue Board (IRB) too must ‘investigate' and confirm that no such tax evasion had taken place.

The attorney-general, the Companies Commission and police must also clear all the illegal dealings; and finally our Wisma Putra must also come up with a clear statement that Singapore has always been cooperative and helpful when it comes to dealing with illicit money and money laundering.

And don't forget, the Bar Council must also clear the lawyer, who openly and blatantly gave ‘illegal' legal advice.
John 3: 16: Can you blame me if I think the MACC is toothless. At least, it should get a decent set of dentures.
Appum: If such things were exposed say in United Kingdom or United States or Japan, it would be hugely scandalous and the government of Sarawak will have to resign en bloc. The anti-corruption institutions there will act on it without any prompting.

But in Malaysia, such an ‘Oscar' winning expose is nothing. There will be NATO (no action, talk only).

The only way for Malaysia to renew itself is to go for total structural change, meaning changing the whole federal government and the rogue states under Umno-BN. People must wake up before it's too late. Fifty-six years is enough.

Ghkok: What shocks me is that the characters in the video (the two daughters of Sarawak's former chief minister Abdul Rahman Ya'akub and lawyer Alvin Chong) so casually and blatantly talk about the deal as if they are talking about selling nasi lemak when in fact, they are talking about plundering and selling land belonging to the people to the tune of tens of millions of ringgit.

This is not a one-off case. It appears to be a systematic plunder of the state carried out over a period of time. Unbelievable, unforgivable, unforgettable and despicable.

Apa Ini?: This video ought to go viral and it merits reflection, not like the cheap ‘Umno-gomo' black-and-white pictures they put out on Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Fellow Malaysians, especially voters in Sarawak, choose carefully. Do we want another five years of this? They have no respect for our homeland - selling it to all and sundry and keeping it 'safe' in Singapore.

King Maker: After watching the video clip, I promised myself I will never vote for BN any more.

Sarawak CM Abdul Taib Mahmud's families treat the Dayaks worse than animals. I wonder why PM Najib Abdul Razak never does anything about it. What are they waiting for?

If Sarawak CM Taib Mahmud is not stopped, the whole of Sarawak will be destroyed one day.

Anonymous$&@?: Rakyat of Sarawak, if you are reading this, please forward this article (plus video) to your fellow countrymen so that they can forward it to their bethren, friends and other Sarawakians.

Please don't sit and do nothing and wait for others to do this. This is your state and for goodness sake, an NGO has taken the trouble to expose the corruption there.

It is now up to you to spread this news. Please don't blame others but yourself if you let Taib Mahmud continue to be in power.

Cogito Ergo Sum: All the dirt in the world and all the evidence cannot bring down Taib. Why? Because despite the video and documentary evidence, it will not be sufficient for prosecution.

Good to watch and good to read... but that's all. Sigh.

Idoc: What really irked me watching the video was how easily and arrogantly the individuals made statements on the evasion of real property gains tax.

Don't they realise how much the country is losing out in the process? This corroborates the report on capital flight in the country. It may not be billions but trillions of ringgit.

LJC: Please stop the nonsense like it is all the doing of greedy politicians. It takes two to tango. As long as greedy bloodsucking businessmen are willing to join the likes of Taib and others, we are doomed as a nation.

We are, and we will, remain a corrupted third world nation. This will never end without an enlightened middle-class coming together for the good of our country. But the problem is, will we?

Unspin: It used to be that corruption, if any, was discreet and confined to the politician per se.

Now, the politicians' sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws are all getting into the act because it is there for the taking.

And what is MACC doing about it? Nothing.

YUNoAnon: MACC had plenty of time to investigate, and NGO Global Witness took a year to come up with this. When you care, this is what you can produce. Obviously, MACC does not care.

T: This is why a two-party system and a regular change of government is a good thing. Taib has been in power for too long such that he treats Sarawak as his personal little kingdom.

Same with BN and Malaysia. Once out of power, these leaders can clean their house and do some soul searching.

Truth1: A word or two to BN and Umno - if you must do videos, do them like this, with substantial research thrown in and a real story.

Not the stupid, same old staple of an actor having sex with a woman, a man and, next, possibly a goat.

You guys in BN really need to get better video producers than that Suhaimi Baba. So, learn from this Global Witness report and quit being a ‘juara kampung' (village hero).

AnakBangsaMalaysia: I am looking forward to seeing what kind of pathetic excuses MACC is forced to come up with for not prosecuting Taib Mahmud and his relatives to the fullest extent of the law.
Perhaps MACC will see fit to ‘ping pong' some ‘investigation papers' among itself, the police and the Attorney-General's Chambers for the next 20 years, or perhaps MACC will skip the rigmarole and just immediately declare that Taib Mahmud and his family are clear of any wrongdoing. - Malaysiakini
