Killed Sulu general not Azzimudie, says IGP
Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar today said the Sulu general which security forces killed yesterday was not Azzimudie Kiram, the top leader of the intruders and brother of Sulu sultan Jamalul Kiram III.
"It's not (Azzimudie), it is (the body of) one of their leaders," he told a press conference at Felda Sahabat Residence in Sabah this morning.
Ismail (left) was clarifying about the Sulu general who, along with 30 others, had been killed by Malaysian security forces on Wednesday night in Tanjung Batu.
He said that security forces had concluded the man was one of their leaders based on his attire, but are still in the process of verifying his exact identity.
Ismail added that there have been no new developments since yesterday evening as there has yet to be any new engagement between security forces and the enemy.
He also said that text messages purportedly by the police claiming that there were new incursions in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau were untrue.
'Enemies not surrendering'
"The enemy has also not indicated that they would want to surrender (after the call for ceasefire on their side yesterday)," he said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had rejected Jamalul's call for a ceasefire, instead demanding the groupsurrender unconditionally.
To date, Ismail said all enemies engaged in the operation zone were shot and none had been captured as of yet since Ops Daulat began on Tuesday.
Later, Sabah Commissioner of Police Hamza Taib said that a total of 79 suspects have been arrested throughout Sabah since Feb 12 to facilitate investigations in relation to this crisis.
They include three of the intruders who were arrested while attempting to escape the Kampung Tanduo cordon last Saturday night, before Ops Daulat began.
Meanwhile, armed forces general Zulkefeli Mohd Zin confirmed thatfighter jets have again taken to the skies but did not confirm if they had dropped any bombs amid claims of explosions this morning.
“The jet fighters are part of our operation plan... I don't know (about the bombs), but it is part of our operation plan so I cannot disclose," he said.
