Two commandos wounded in overnight gunbattle

Two members of the Malaysian security forces were injured after being shot at by the Sulu intruders in a gunbattle that lasted from 8pm yesterday until 4am.
"One was shot in the calf and another was shot in the thigh, they have been sent to Sandakan Hospital after receiving on-site treatment from military medics," Sabah police commissioner Hamza Taib told a press conference at Felda Residence Sahabat this morning.
The two, he said, were commandos from the General Operations Force. Both were 25 years of age and from Miri.

Hamzah said the exchange of bullets happened sporadically throughout the duration.

He added that the Malaysian security forces were fired upon while maintaining the cordon on Tanjung Batu.

"From this, we can see that the enemy's call for a ceasefire is false. If they indeed want a ceasefire, why are they still shooting at us," he said.

These are the first two injuries sustained by the Malaysian security forces since the beginning of Ops Daulat on March 5.

Since then, a total of 34 enemies have been killed with no casualties on the Malaysian side.

From the beginning of the crisis on Feb 12, a total of eight policemen and 53 enemies have been killed and another three captured.
