Despite Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil welcoming a challenge for her party position from former Puteri Umno chief Azalina Othman, she reminded Azalina not to split the ‘mothers-and-daughters’ relationship in the party wing.
“We cannot dictate or whatsoever, no. I am also happy that Azalina wants to contest. Maybe there are others, who will send their proxy candidate. We know there will be. I welcome them, please get into the battleground,” she said.
She queried Azalina for not bringing the so-called “youth transformation” agenda into Wanita Umno.
“I am asking Azalina or whoever wants to campaign, (please) campaign for all, do not have segregation, do not have disunity between Puteri, former Puteri and Wanita Umno. I think it is not nice.
“Why? (Because) it will promote disunity and dispute between mothers and daughters, (which is) not nice. I do not want to see it,” she told a press conference after a campaign event at Kuala Besut today.
