Apologise or face lawsuit, Jahara tells Guan Eng

Penang State Assembly opposition leader Jahara Hamid has threatened to sue Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng if he does not publicly apologise for his "racist grandmother" remark within a week.

Jahara said Lim’s remark, uttered two weeks ago, was meant to subterfuge the public.

She had merely tried to defend Malay hawkers, she said, whose stalls were being torn down and she therefore did not deserve the personal attack.

"To lie and defame me is a serious personal attack and reduces my dignity as a woman and as an opposition leader," Utusan Malaysiatoday quotes Jahara as telling reporters in Penang.

"As a state leader, Guan Eng needs to analyse all facts with care and be rational and positive," she added.

Lim had on Dec 9 described Jahara as "an unreasonable and racist grandmother" over her charge in the state assembly earlier that day about selective action being taken against Malay hawkers by the Seberang Perai Municipal Council.

A day later, Lim apologised to Jahara for using "grandmother" on her, but he maintained that she was "racist."

Today’s Utusan on this matter also states that Wanita Umno branch leaders in Penang were standing  behind Jahara on her latest demand.
