Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has slammed non-Bumiputera companies who discriminated against Bumiputera in terms of pay and recruitment, adding that none of these companies have a Malay chief executive.
The discrimination occurred, he said, although Malay dominated government ministries and departments were appointing more non-Bumiputera in senior positions, such as secretary-general.
Khairy said this at the opening of the Umno Youth assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
The Umno Youth chief based his claims on two studies by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Malaya.
He said: "According to the studies, although they met the grade in terms of merits and qualifications, they do not get a fair deal.
"There are cases where they get lower salaries compared with other workers with similar abilities and qualifications.
"What is even sadder is that we constantly see advertisements for work that clearly state their preference for one community and marginalise others."
Khairy, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, said as long as there was discrimination, it would impede the government's efforts to see more Bumiputera professionals in the private sector.
He then called on the government to give out more jobs to Bumiputera Class G contractors through the Bumiputera Empowerment Unit.
"Many Bumiputera contractors in the G class complain about the lack of jobs. Despite the various mega projects announced by the government, they are still left behind and need to be given opportunities."
Khairy also defended the Bumiputera Economic Empowerment Agenda that was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak last September, saying it was a clear testament that Umno was not racist.
"It is an all-encompassing plan to upgrade the socioeconomic welfare of the Bumiputera community in line with the principles of social justice.
"The agenda does not in any way infringe upon the rights of others. What it will do is ensure that the economic cake is expanded and divided fairly for all." - TMI
